Black Peter (Card game)

A reproduction of the traditional German card game Schwarzer Peter – a well-known game dating back to the 19th century. This specific version is based on a popular interwar and wartime design, often found among the personal belongings of German soldiers during World War II.

These cards served as a form of entertainment both in the rear and at the front. Wehrmacht soldiers often carried small games like this in their bread bag (Brotbeutel) or in the inner compartment of the tornister as part of their personal items (Tascheninhalt). Card games were a common way to pass the time during rest periods or recovery.

The goal of the game is to avoid being left with the “Black Peter” card – the one who holds it at the end loses. The set includes illustrated pairs of cards with German text and one unique Schwarzer Peter card. Original wartime versions are now sought-after collector’s items and make an excellent addition to any reenactor's personal gear display.
