Condensed milk

A faithful reproduction of ALPEN-MILCH unsweetened condensed milk, packaged in a historically accurate tin from the 1930s–1940s. Produced by Allgäuer Alpenmilch A.G. (Bavaria), the label features a bear logo and represents the style of both civilian and military food packaging used during the Third Reich.

Condensed milk was widely used in the first half of the 20th century, especially in the military, due to its long shelf life and safety compared to fresh milk. In the Wehrmacht, it was issued to field kitchens, medical units, and supply depots, where it was used in coffee, porridge, baking, or as part of emergency rations. Once opened, it remained usable for several days, even under field conditions.

This variant is unsweetened (Ungezuckerte kondensierte Vollmilch), offering greater flexibility for cooking. While sweetened condensed milk provided a caloric boost (just 2 tablespoons added 90 kcal and 2g of protein to meals like oatmeal), the unsweetened type allowed for broader culinary use.
To prepare sweetened milk from this product, mix one can (approx. 300 ml) with 800 ml of water to yield about 1100 ml of lightly sweetened milk — ideal for coffee or custard.

Perfect for reenactor kitchens, historical displays, or as a prop in period films.
