A reproduction of the period tin “Feinste Ostsee Delikatess Heringe in Bouillon” by F.A. Cloppen, typical of the pre-war and wartime era. Similar tins of preserved herring could be found in rear supply units, military hospitals, or included in food parcels from home. Canned fish was a valuable source of protein and had excellent shelf stability.
This package is suitable for reenactment events or as a display piece in a historical kitchen or period-correct table setting. After filling it with your own contents (e.g. sardines or herring), you can seal and use it during food service.
Fish tins were considered a more luxurious ration item, especially if they came from high-quality production plants. Their packaging was often richly decorated, making them stand out from standard military-issue tins.
