This authentic reconstruction of a Wehrmacht soldier's private life documents one of the most popular leisure activities at the front: photography. The pocket-sized photo album and protective photo envelope together capture the journey of a photograph from development to safe storage.
The Foto-Dienst Schwittay studio design from Oppeln and the envelope with the Soldatenheim "Hessen - Nassau" motif from Kristiansand reflect the historical practice of German troops using military homes and civilian photo services across occupied Europe.
The album contains 8 sheets (16 pages) and is perfectly suited for 6×9 cm or 6×6 cm format photographs. Two variants are available, following period customs:
Pre-cut slots variant features pages with precision-cut slits for the direct insertion of 16 photographs. It is ideal for those who want to mount their photos immediately without additional accessories. Simply slide the photos into the corner slits for a neat look that stays secure even in field conditions.
Blank pages variant for photo corners offers maximum flexibility and absolute historical accuracy. Smooth pages allow for custom layouts using traditional adhesive photo corners (corners are not included). This method was extremely common in the 1940s and allows for mounting original vintage photos or atypical clippings just as a soldier would have done in the barracks.
The period photo envelope serves as the primary protection when collecting prints from the lab. With its authentic graphics and typography, it is a perfect piece of pocket litter to add depth to a reenactment kit. The envelope protects photos from bending or scratching in a field blouse pocket until the soldier can organize them into the album.
Whether for historical reconstruction, film production, or archiving, these items transform modern prints into a tangible artifact of frontline life.
