A reproduction of wartime Verrechnungsschein banknotes used exclusively by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. These notes were not valid in the civilian economy and were issued only to members of the armed forces. Reichsmark notes were printed on both sides, while Reichspfennig denominations had printing on one side only.
Each note is printed on quality paper using waterproof ink. Ideal for reenactment, museum displays, or as a collector’s item.
These military banknotes were distributed to soldiers as part of their pay (Wehrsold) and were used for everyday expenses in field conditions – in army canteens, for small purchases, or exchanges among soldiers. They were typically kept in wallets, document folders, or among personal effects.
The Wehrmacht had its own pay structure.
For context:
- Unteroffizier: 180 RM/month (140 RM base pay + 40 RM war bonus)
- Obergefreiter: 113 RM (78 + 35 RM)
- Gefreiter / enlisted soldier: 35 RM Wehrsold only
Examples of prices during the war:
- Mercedes 540K: 42,000 RM
- Volkswagen Beetle: 900–990 RM
- Olympia portable typewriter: 127.5 RM
- Pack of 12 Eckstein cigarettes: 3.33 RM
- 1 kg of bread: 35 Pfennig
- Entrance to a brothel: 2 RM
- Cheapest soldier’s funeral (paid by the state): 200 RM
These banknotes offer a realistic insight into the everyday life and economy of a Wehrmacht soldier both on and off the battlefield.
